I am a 33 year old female who had been taking birth control for the past 12 years. In October 2009, my husband and I decided we wanted to begin trying to start our family. After not 

getting my period for three months after stopping the pill, I went to my doctor to make sure everything was ok. At that point I began having some pain in my right side, my doctor told me I had some cysts and he diagnosed me with PCOS. (Later I learned that I do not have PCOS.) He prescribed me Clomid to help me ovulate and also gave me a medication to start my period. Five rounds of Clomid later we were not pregnant. At this point a friend had suggested I look into acupuncture. I had never thought about this until she brought it to my attention. I began to research this online and came across Carolyn’s website. After talking to my husband we decided this was something we wanted to try. My first session with Carolyn was the beginning of September 2010.

Carolyn went through my diet, history and lifestyle in detail. I began to make adjustments to my diet by cutting out caffeine, alcohol and incorporating different foods into my diet. I also started taking a few herbs she recommended. (I was hesitant at first to take the herbs.) After just a few weeks with her I fell pregnant for the first time. Unfortunately, shortly after learning we were pregnant I miscarried. A couple of months later on Christmas day I got my period on my own for the first time after stopping the birth control over a year prior! My next cycle was perfect and then I fell pregnant again in February. This pregnancy too ended up being a non-viable pregnancy. We were devastated. As a result I ended up having to have a D&C in April 2011. After not getting a period for three months after the D&C the doctor ran tests that showed there was still fetal material in my uterus. I ended up having to have a second D&C in August 2011. The doctor also wanted to check to make sure my fallopian tubes were open so she also performed a laparoscopic tubal patency dye study at the same time. They were able to complete the D&C and the dye study revealed that both of my tubes were wide open. This was a very hard time and seemed so unfair. I got through it all from the love and strength of my husband, family, and friends. Once recovered from this, Carolyn talked to me about trying liquid herbs. She collaborated with an herbal pharmacist in New York. After reviewing my case they created a liquid herbal concoction that I drank twice a day for approximately two months. My periods began to be healthier and brighter. We fell pregnant naturally for the third time on my third cycle after the second D&C! We found out we were pregnant again on December 1, 2011. I am now 16 weeks pregnant with IDENTICAL TWIN GIRLS! We could not be happier. Everything is going great! The doctors plan to keep a close watch on myself and the babies as twins are considered “high risk”, but to this point the babies appear to be strong and healthy.

Throughout all of this I continued going to acupuncture weekly, sometimes twice a week. Carolyn and her work not only helped to get my physical body in order but also helped me to process the emotions involved in this journey. Letting go of things we cannot control and knowing that things happen for a reason. Through all of the ups and downs acupuncture helped to facilitate a peace in me, and I feel facilitated my falling pregnant. I cannot thank Carolyn enough for her care.

So here we are expecting two babies this summer! Life is good!

Thanks to Acupuncture and Carolyn, my husband and I are now 12 weeks pregnant with a very active and healthy baby. I came to Carolyn because I was having irregular periods and had no idea when I ovulated. I had an ectopic pregnancy with the loss of my tube 10 years ago, but still had both of my ovaries. I am very proud to be one of your 6 pregnancies that was conceived this fall! I have been nervous still to share because of my past history. However, we have finally made it to 16 weeks and heard a strong heartbeat at my appointment yesterday. I think I can finally relax and enjoy the pregnancy. I went to Carolyn on February 17, 2011 at the age of 33. I was full of frustration and disappointment from trying to conceive for 8 years. We tried Clomid and IUI a number of times, nothing worked. As I write this, I am sitting next to my two-month-old son who came into our lives after almost three years of trying to conceive. After two years of trying unsuccessfully on our own, countless sonograms, blood tests, and hysterosalpinograms – all inconclusive – my doctors told me it was time to try hormone therapy, IUI or IVF. It brings great excitement to share with folks, looking for an alternative to better health, Carolyn Huffman’s Wellness. Acupuncture has been a wonderful option for my husband and I. At first, we approached this endeavor with many trepidations, I mean who really enjoys needles? Our focus was fertility and although we still seek and pray for our lucky moment we were more shocked with the unexpected benefits of better health. One example, in particular, would be my monthly cycles. Oh how they changed! I suffered cramps, grumpiness, and discomfort for the past 10 years. I am thrilled to tell you that little Parker Heckman arrived on Feb 7th at 8:12 a.m. weighing 7 lbs. 15 oz. He is a happy and healthy baby boy. My c-section went very smoothly and I was released from the hospital 2 days later. We have been home for about 2 weeks and loving every minute of it. My husband and I had been trying to conceive for 3 years. In 2006, we had conceived but at 18 weeks I miscarried. When we came to Carolyn, she told us, she would need at least 3 months to help me conceive, maybe even 6. She encouraged me to stop coffee and soft drinks which I did and to eat more vegetables, lean protein and fruits and cut back on processed foods and sugar. She empathized with my emotional struggle and gave me words of incredible encouragement. Amazingly, after two months, I did conceive!. My husband who was very doubtful of the acupuncture was especially surprised, needless to say we were overjoyed! I continued to come for weekly acupuncture treatments through 12 weeks, at that time I also found out, I had an incompetent cervix, so the doctor had to stitch up my cervix. Then at 22 weeks I began to have some mild contractions and I was put in the hospital on bed rest for 95 days. I only got up to go to the bathroom. At 36 weeks I was released from the hospital and went home but still had to take it easy. At 38 weeks my water broke and I gave birth vaginally to a healthy 6 lbs. 8 oz., baby girl on 2-18-11 at 1 PM. We are so thankful and cannot believe we have our baby finally! My husband especially! The doctors just told us she needs to fatten up a little. Thank you Carolyn and I hope to come see you again to revive my energy after this long 9 months. It was worth every day of it!

Carolyn, I cannot thank you enough for helping to make our dream a reality. I had heard so many good things about you and your acupuncture treatments. I wanted this first IVF to be the last one and had heard acupuncture increased the success of the IVF! You would think the last thing anyone would want during the process would be more needles and by choice, but adding accupuncture to the process was worth every “stick”! During the process, I felt I had no control over what was happening and just hoping for the best. Adding accupuncture was my doing and in my control, so it gave me a sense of being able to add something of worth to the whole situation. After being diagnosed with a mild form of PCOS and slight endometriosis, we conceived our first son after a couple of months on an oral fertility medication called Letrozole. Once he turned a year old, we decided we were ready to start trying for another child. We began seeing the area’s top reproductive endocrinologist group and went through numerous rounds of Clomid, Letrozole, and 7 IUI’s. We finally decided IVF was our last option, even though we really couldn’t afford it. We underwent IVF and unfortunately, it was unsuccessful. After 4 years of trying to get pregnant, we were at our wits end. Then, to our surprise, we got pregnant on our own, only to miscarry 9 weeks later. It was the most heartbreaking experience we’ve ever endured. We decided we needed a change. Something different. Something that made more sense. That’s when I started researching acupuncture and came across Carolyn’s web site. After reading her success stories and talking to her on the phone, I made my first appointment.
She told me that she could do everything on her end to try to get me pregnant, but I had to be willing to do my part too if I wanted it to succeed. So I knew right off the bat, I was going to have to make some changes.
I strictly adhered to Carolyn’s diet and lifestyle changes that she recommended for me. I took several different Chinese herbs throughout my cycle to regulate my body and get things back in balance. Pregnant with Two Year Old Frozen Embryos
After an unsuccessful Invitro-Fertilization (IVF) attempt, I decided to use yoga and acupuncture for both stress relief and a healthy mind, body and spirit. I used these treatments both before, during and after a second IVF attempt and my husband and I were excited to learn that we were expecting a son. After another year of trying to get pregnant (with no success), I again turned to acupuncture to help get my body ready for a frozen embryo transfer. Unexplained Fertility and 8 Home Pregnancy Tests Later
After several rounds of Clomid, 6 IUI’S, 2 IVF’S, and one chemical pregnancy all combined with sporadic acupuncture treatments, changes in diet, and occasional herbs, I finally conceived after 3 and ½ years on my own! This occurred while I was in between IVF cycles and my period had not come, so the RE Doctors gave me a pill to induce my period. However, when my period still had not come, I took another pregnancy test and it was positive, even though I had taken the drug to induce my period. I was the talk of the Reproductive Clinic that day!
After the first sonogram, I was relieved to find out everything was fine. I then proceeded with acupuncture thru the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy to prevent miscarriage, and morning sickness. I am very thankful to Carolyn for her assistance through this whole process. She was very patient with me coming and going and not consistently maintaining the treatments thru 3 to 6 months weekly. I have recently started back with her to help me conceive my 2nd child, as my husband and I once again have not been able to on our own.

Weekly Acupuncture and Herbs for 3 Months + IVF = Baby!!

After 3 and 1/2 years of infertility, including multiple cycles of clomid, gonadotropins with intrauterine insemination and exploratory surgery, my only other option was to attempt IVF. I wanted the IVF cycle to be as successful as possible, so I turned to Carolyn for acupuncture treatments. I followed the acupuncture treatment schedule, along with the diet, exercise and herbs that Carolyn recommended for me. My IVF cycle produced 3 healthy embryos. I am happy to share that out of this I gave birth to a healthy baby boy!  Seeing Carolyn throughout the IVF cycle and my first trimester, not only helped me physically, but also mentally. My Fortune (Cookie) Came True Naturally!

I had previously undergone acupuncture treatments for a rotator cuff injury and runner’s knee with much success, so when my husband and I decided to try for a baby and my cycles were highly irregular, my first thought was to try acupuncture again. Carolyn Huffman completed a thorough initial assessment with me to determine the best treatment options. She suggested not trying for a baby for three months to develop healthy follicles for the release of optimal eggs. It was an adjustment for me not to try, because I thought getting pregnant would not be a difficult task.

After the initial three months of acupuncture, I started trying for a baby again but my cycles were just starting to normalize to 28-32 days instead of 35-60 days. I also made modifications to my diet, by increasing my consumption of various vegetables and warming foods and liquids, as well as decreasing and ceasing the use of coffee, sugar, chocolate, and other fertility-unfriendly foods and drinks. I kept a log on the Fertility Friend website to track my temperature, and with the acupuncture, I began to understand how my body was functioning on a monthly cycle. I began to notice how after a night of drinking with friends or after a very stressful week, my temperature, mood, and body responded negatively.

After a full six months of acupuncture treatments, diet changes, and the recommended herbs Carolyn prescribed, I found out I was pregnant which was one of the most heart-warming days of my life! Right before I delivered I came for 2 acupuncture treatments with Carolyn again, only to give birth exactly on the day I was due to a gorgeous baby girl and the delivery was a piece of cake!

Unexplained Infertility with Ovulation on Day 28!

I had been trying to get pregnant for 3 years before beginning treatment with Carolyn Huffman. I had tried naturally for the first year with no success. I had irregular periods and that first year only had 2 periods the entire year. I then began treatment with a fertility specialist. After all of the initial testing my husband and I were told that our tests looked great and there were no “known” issues that were contributing to our inability to conceive. We went through 3 rounds of IUI and clomid. All 3 attempts were unsuccessful. After meeting with our infertility specialist it was suggested that the next step should be IVF.

In the meantime, my mother had read an article about Carolyn and her acupuncture treatments for fertility in the Tampa Tribune. I had never heard of treating with acupuncture to help with infertility, but thought “Why not give it a try”. I was a little afraid of the entire IVF process so I began treating with Carolyn in the middle of July. She was able to diagnose my condition and recommend several changes to my diet and had me taking a combination of herbs to help improve blood flow. I did acupuncture treatments with Carolyn 1 to 2 times a week for approximately 45 days. During that time she was able to reduce my Cycle time. She also had me taking my basal body temperature every morning. The more I monitored myself… the more I found out how irregular my body was. My temperatures were abnormally low. I also noticed that I was ovulating on days 28, 29, and 30. Definitely not the norm. In August I was still treating with Carolyn and was on day 41 of my cycle. I came in for my visit that Friday afternoon and we did a heavy duty front and back treatment with electrical stimulation to help induce a period. That weekend I noticed that I was feeling very tired and felt crampy, but my period never came. So that Sunday I decided to do a pregnancy test …. And to my complete surprise, I was pregnant!!! Even though my LH surge and ovulation was on day 28!

Carolyn is absolutely brilliant. She makes you feel like you are her only client. She provides so much guidance and keeps you positive & uplifted. She has guided me through this entire process and there is no one that I trust more than Carolyn. I also treated with her once a week to help prevent miscarriage and any first trimester issues and I will return prior to delivery. 39 and finally Pregnant Naturally after 5 years!

I attended a forum at Huffman Wellness in April. I had been trying to conceive for 4 1/2 yrs. & had one miscarriage after a few rounds of clomid. After hearing some of the success stories of the women Carolyn has treated, at a Fertility Forum she held this past spring, I immediately regained some of the hope that I had lost after all those years of failed attempts. PCOS and Finally Pregnant at 34!

I always knew I wanted to have children, but had a sneaking suspicion I would have some challenges getting pregnant. I felt that way because before I was on the “pill” for the 13 years, I had an extremely irregular menstrual cycle.

My husband and I were married November 2006, and decided that I would stop using the pill January 2007 to give my body a few months to adjust before we started “trying”. When June rolled around, we were ready. The excitement came to a halt because after, 8 weeks went by, I had no period and pregnancy tests were negative. Fertility specialists say to wait a year before trying to take action , but I knew something was not right with my body. I did extensive internet research, and diagnosed myself with PCOS. I then went to my OBGYN and she confirmed I had PCOS. In short, with PCOS you do not ovulate, or ovulate very, very rarely, giving you no or rare, unpredictable opportunities to become pregnant.

My OBGYN recommended that I try Clomid to help me ovulate. I started my first dose of Clomid September 2007, and nothing happened. Then took my second, higher dose of Clomid in November 2007, and still no results. In December per my OBGYN recommendation I saw a fertility specialist. The fertility specialist performed a number of tests and recommended that I have two options: IVF or IUI, both which required shots.

I felt that was not the way conception was suppose to happen for me and I wanted to first try an alternative method. Someone told me about acupuncture and I decided it was worth a chance for a few months. I first met with one acupuncturist and he too told me the only way he would treat me was if I did IVF with his treatments. So when I finally met with Carolyn I had tears in my eyes of utter despair and lost hope. She looked at me and understood and said “Look I know this is hard and I will work with you, but with the complexity of your disease I cannot make any guarantee and that I may have to eventually resort to IVF.” She also stated it was important to follow a strict regimen with the diet, herbs and acupuncture program she would recommend as well as a change in lifestyle.

My menstrual cycle started to become shorter at 53, 49 and then 43 days. But, I still was not sure if I was ovulating. June 2008, I decided to go back to the Fertility Specialist to have some test performed and see if the acupuncture was making a difference. Unfortunately, the tests did not appear to show anything different from when the test were performed 7 months previously. And, again the fertility specialist said I had two options: IVF or IUI.

I was devastated that it appeared that all the efforts I put in the past 6 months did not make a change. I decided not to make any decisions on what I wanted to do and to enjoy my birthday a week later. I completely changed my outlook – I had a positive attitude and decided I was “34 and fabulous”. My husband and I we headed to Pennsylvania for July 4th weekend, and I knew I was going to see friends and family members with children – but, I kept a positive attitude. Surprisingly, I was already 25 days through my menstrual cycle – and I ovulated! A few weeks later after continuing to track my temperature and saw that it continued to be high over 14 days, and after 21 days and some pregnancy signs I could no longer ignore, I took a pregnancy test August 2008 and it said “Pregnant”. The day I came in to tell Carolyn, I said: “It has been 6 months…” and that is all I said. Mind you, several weeks before I was really frustrated, impatient and sad.  Carolyn understood this but kept me focused by asking about my temps, and herbs.  I interrupted her with “wo, forget that stuff…I’m Pregnant!!”

Male Factor Infertility

My husband and I were diagnosed with male factor infertility. The physican told us the only way we would likely get pregnant was through IVF.We began acupuncture and herbal therapy treatment with Carolyn in April before undergoing IVF in July.

My husband made major lifestyle changes such as diet, sleep, no alcoholic beverages, vitamin and amino acid supplements, regular acupuncture and Chinese herbs prescribed by Carolyn. I also was treated with acupuncture and herbs. Our IVF attempt failed and we decided to continue with the acupuncture and herbs. We decided to try naturally for awhile and give my body time to recover from all the effects of the hormones of IVF.

In November, we decided to try an IUI, without Clomid, just to see what might happen. My husband’s original sperm count was 19 million when we were first diagnosed as infertile and on the day of the IUI his sperm count was 100 million. Luckily it worked and we tested positive for pregnancy on my birthday. We are thankful to Carolyn for all her assistance in helping us to conceive as well as to God for answering our prayers.
